The Spokane Police Department is conducting two investigations involving Gonzaga students.
The cases, an assault on a female student in Riverfront Park and a sexual assault in the Kennedy Apartments, are being investigated with full support from campus security and the Gonzaga administration.
Gonzaga Campus Security responded to a sexual assault report early Saturday morning, Oct. 22.
The sexual assault, allegedly, occurred on the fifth floor of the Kennedy Apartments. It was immediately reported to the Spokane Police Department.
According to Campus Security Director John VanSant, individuals involved in the incident have been identified and interviewed by the Spokane Police Department.
Spokane police and VanSant both believe that there is no ongoing threat to the Gonzaga community.
"It is a very active investigation and we are supporting it and everyone involved in the case. That is the key thing right now," VanSant said.
VanSant declined to comment further on the incident. According to VanSant, it is a serious case and information about it is not available to the public at this time.
There is also an investigation regarding an Oct. 14 incident. According to Spokane police, a female Gonzaga student was brutally attacked near the haunted house in Riverfront Park.
Reports state that at about 9:10 p.m., a group of female Gonzaga students was passing the house when a man sitting on a bench began to yell obscenities at them. They continued walking, but were chased down by the man. He then punched one of the females in the face, knocking out several teeth and causing other injuries to her face.
The man was described as in his 20s, 6 feet tall, thin with short hair, and wearing a teal polo shirt.
Detectives have asked the public for assistance in locating the suspect.
VanSant said it is a Spokane Police Department investigation, but the university has reached out in support of the students involved.
VanSant declined further comment on the incident.
