What we did: Snake-style drafted our dream Zag basketball teams.
The rules: There are 10 rounds. Each team must have a player from the women's program and one coach. Editor-in-Chief David Gentile and Managing Editor Erik Skopil pick the best team.
The participants: Sports editors Ian Powell (Ian's Gravey Train) and Justin Trujillo (Justin's Bucket Factory), and columnist Jake Palmer (JPalm's Hall of Fame).
We want to hear from you too! Who blew it? Who had the best team? What would you have done differently? Let us know below in the comment area.
Round 1
IP — Kelly Graves: "A no-brainer for the first-overall pick. Even the Mighty Ducks would know that Graves is the guy."
JT — Adam Morrison: "Maybe not the best player in America but he sure is making a case in Serbia!"
JP — John Stockton: "Really? He fell to No. 3? Ya'll better shape up or this fake championship might as well already be mine."
Round 2
JP — Ronny Turiaf: "Big man with a big personality. How do you say ‘beast' in French?"
JT — Courtney Vandersloot: "Too early? Nope. I was not about to miss having the only college player ever with 2,000 points and 1,000 assists on my team."
IP — Derek Raivio: "I saw Raivio ball over summer and the guy still has it."
Round 3
IP — Steven Gray: "Gray brings two essential elements: swagg and skill. Not only does he look like Predator, but he also has a true knack for scoring."
JT — Austin Daye: "Daye has potential to be a stud as a pro or potential to be a bust, good value for a bad Pistons team."
JP — Richie Frahm: "Wet jumper, sweet frosted tips, and he did skits with Barats and Bereta in Crosby. ‘JESU-WHAT?!'"
Round 4
JP — Matt Bouldin: "Four-year starter with a hairstyle that will be mimicked by DeSmet bros for generations."
JT — Elias Harris: "I'mbanking on Elias playing like his first year as a Zag. He's got mad talent and is my preseason favorite for the Wooden Award."
IP — Casey Calvary: "He was the ‘Megatron' of college basketball. You can run, but you can't hide."
Round 5
IP — Josh Heytvelt: "His off-the-court problems masked his on-court production, but he averaged 14.9 ppg and 6.5 rpg his senior season."
JT — Jeremy Pargo: "Pargo threw his shoes into the crowd after his last home game. I love throwing my shoes at people. Who cares how many turnovers he had?"
JP — J.P. Bautista: Great initials.
Round 6
JP — Vivian Frieson: "Veezy was the first Zag to be drafted to the WNBA and gets buckets, period."
JT — Mark Few: "Someone has to coach my team + (315-83) career record + Coaches v. Cancer = The perfect coach for my not-so-perfect team."
