There will be new voices projecting from the television screen during Gonzaga men's basketball games this season. But the two new men behind those voices are not new to Gonzaga. Former Gonzaga men's basketball players Dan Dickau and Richard Fox will accompany play-by-play commentator Greg Heister for men's basketball broadcasts on KHQ/ROOT Sports.

The addition of the two ex-Bulldogs follows the departure of Craig Ehlo, who took the men's basketball assistant coach position at Eastern Washington. Ehlo had been a part of KHQ, SWX and FSN broadcasts for the past five seasons.

"They will bring a level of insight that we have never had before with the team and the coach because they were players," said KHQ President and General Manager Patricia McRae.

Dickau, a Washington transfer after his sophomore season, immediately became a standout at Gonzaga. He averaged 18.9 ppg as a junior and 20.1 ppg a senior. His spectacular senior statistics distinguished him as one of the nation's top players. He was ranked 24th in the NCAA in scoring, and was tied for first in 3-point field goals made with 117.

Dickau also received some of the most elite awards and nominations in college basketball, including Associated Press first-team All-American, John R. Wooden Top Five All-America Team and a Naismith Player of the Year finalist.

Dickau also earned many accolades within the WCC, including two-time West Coast Conference first-team selection and the WCC Player of the Year in his senior season. Dickau not only excelled on the court, but in the classroom as well, earning first team Verizon Academic All-American in 2002 as a broadcasting major.

Dickau is one of four players in Gonzaga history to be drafted in the first-round of the NBA draft. The Sacramento Kings selected Dickau with the 28th overall pick and he was then traded to Atlanta where he started his six-season NBA career.

Fox, a transfer from Colorado, averaged 6.6 ppg and 3.4 rpg in 2003. Fox also holds the record at the Jimmy V Classic where he brought down a career-high 17 rebounds. Fox is also known for his tip-in with 14 seconds left in the memorable double-overtime NCAA  Second Round loss to Arizona.

"Hopefully having both played for Coach Few, competed against some of the best collegiate programs, won WCC championships, played in the NCAA tournaments and having been around the program since nearly the beginning of its run of NCAA tournament appearances will allow us to bring a new and fresh perspective to the broadcasts," Fox said.

Fox and Dickau share a special relationship as they were roommates at Gonzaga.

"I am excited to work with Dan.  It's a new opportunity for both of us and being able to experience it with a close friend will only make it that much more rewarding and enjoyable," Fox said. "Over the past decade, no other GU player has had the type of success on both the collegiate and professional levels, there's no doubt his (Dickau's) experiences will bring a great deal to the broadcasts. I'm looking forward to it."

Another similarity which Dickau and Fox share is that both spent a portion of their collegiate careers away from Gonzaga.

"I think Dan and I will bring the unique perspective of two former GU players who have both played and enjoyed success at Gonzaga after transferring in from other programs. We've seen how things are done at other universities which has given us a unique insight as to why Gonzaga has had such tremendous success over 10 plus years," Fox said.

Fox is not new to announcing Bulldog games. He spent 2008-10 as a color commentator for the Gonzaga basketball radio broadcasts.

KHQ/ROOT will televise 16 games this season.  The new trio of Heister, Dickau and Fox will hit the air in the Zags' first exhibition game Oct. 28 against Carroll College.

"They bring a whole new level to the broadcast. Craig Ehlo was wonderful, he did a great job for us and we will miss him, but I think with both Richard and Dan they will bring another level of excitement and curiosity because we think there are going to be behind-the-scenes of their lives and what they bring to the table that will be fun to hear about," McRae said.
