Forget the paperwork. Gonzaga Intramurals has gone digital.

The Gonzaga University Intramurals has partnered with IMLeagues.com to create an easier and more convenient approach to registration.  IMLeagues.com allows Gonzaga Intramural participants to create an account online and use that account to register for any of the 23 intramural sports and events throughout the year.  All intramural participants will be required to create an account on IMLeagues.com and captains will then be able to send "invitations" to players to add them to their team.  Once players accept the "invitation," (they are given the option to either accept or reject) they will be automatically added to the roster.

"The biggest inspiration is that it just makes the process easier for everybody, there is a little more work up front because everyone has to create an account, but after that making a team is like adding a friend on Facebook," said Assistant Director of Intramurals Andy Main.

The arrival of IMLeagues.com means the departure of the dreaded liability/roster forms.  Yes, Gonzaga students' dreams have finally come true.  No longer will captains need to go from dorm room to dorm room collecting signatures or scouring the Gonzaga campus in need of the final John Hancock before the deadline strikes.  IMLeagues.com also makes it easier to add players mid-season.  Captains just use the same process that they used at the beginning of the season to add players.

Main, along with Assistant Intramural Director Shelly Radtke said that Gonzaga didn't make the switch to IMLeagues.com sooner because Gonzaga Intramurals is unique in many ways compared to other universities around the nation.  Main and Radtke agreed that this is just another step in accommodating students, which has always been a priority for intramurals

IMLeagues.com also has some convenient and flashy features that captains and players can take advantage of during the season.  Players will now be able to view standings and sportsmanship scores on the league's page, which will be updated daily by intramural staff.  And if some intramural participants' egos weren't big enough already, players can now view their own personal win/loss record over multiple sports.

Staff members will be inside the Rudolf Fitness Center with laptops ready to register students for IMLeagues.com. Intramural participants can create their account at www.imleagues.com/Gonzaga/Registration. Once players create an account and log in, they will pick a sport and division.  From there, they are able to create a team, join a team or become a free agent.  Students can list themselves as free agents and will be visible to all members of the site. They can request to join teams or post information about themselves so teams can request to add them to their team.

Intramurals has also added inner tube basketball as a new sport this season.  Main said that intramurals is always looking for inner tube basketball is the only intramural sport to have a 40-team limit, which will be decided by first- come, first-served.

"I played it and officiated it when I was an undergrad [at Washington], so that is where I knew about it from and we always try and add something new and fresh as much as we can.  Inner tube basketball made the most sense because, we knew people would like it. It's something new and exciting and the pool is one area we can expand right now," Main said.

Over the summer, intramurals ran a trial run of inner tube basketball and junior Michael Scafidi was one of the participants.

"Well, when I left the pool, first off, my deltoids were tired, but I had an absolute blast.  It's one of those sports that everyone can play and anyone that is playing is going to have a good time," Scafidi said.

Intramurals hits the ground running with Freshman Games registration Sept. 2 at noon through Sept. 7 at noon.  Fall soccer and flag football registration is Sept. 9 at noon through Sept. 14 at noon.
