When did you get to Spokane/campus? 

“A week and three days before official move-in day because of the club that I am involved in, Kennel Club.”

What was the best part of the first week of school? 

“Besides seeing all my friends, getting back in to my routine, it’s something I missed dearly.”

What have you done so far this first week? 

“Obviously go to class, sort out pertinent stuff, just starting to focus on things I want to do.”

Do you feel ready for the rest of the year?

“Not sure yet, as of right now yes, but we’ll see as class starts picking up.”

Shayla Dollemore (freshman, 18)

When did you get to Spokane/campus? 

“I arrived on Friday morning [Friday, Aug. 23], I left my house at 3 a.m.!”

What was the best part of the first week of school? 

“My favorite part was meeting people and getting a feel for campus, getting to know my own way around.”

What have you done so far this first week? 

“This week I have mainly been attending classes, which has taken up a lot of time. Then I’ve been spending a lot in the COG, getting to know the food.”

Do you feel ready for the rest of the year?

“I think I do, as ready as I can be. I’m trying to plan it out but I don’t know everything that’s coming.”

Serena Rodriguez (sophomore, 18)

When did you get to Spokane/campus? 

“Saturday, Aug. 24th.”

What was the best part of the first week of school?

“Seeing people again.”

What have you done so far this first week? 

“I went to Target a lot. I also ran errands and caught up with people.”

Do you feel ready for the rest of the year?

“Getting there, definitely getting closer.”

Oliver Hunter (freshman, 18), Zachary Tyree (freshman, 18)

When did you get to Spokane/campus? 

Hunter: “I got to Spokane the day before Orientation.”

Tyree: “Same!”

What was the best part of the first week of school?

Hunter: “I got to meet a lot of people and everyone was welcoming.”

Tyree: “Free time to just do whatever, hang out.”

What have you done so far this first week? 

Hunter: “I spent a lot of time in different dorms trying to meet people and trying to adjust to all the free time that you get.”

Tyree: “Going to classes and I played basketball at the rec center.”

Do you feel ready for the rest of the year?

Hunter: “No.”

Tyree: “Kind of?”

Claire Enfield (junior, 20), Taylor Sipila (junior, 20)

When did you get to Spokane/campus? 

Enfield: “I was here last Aug. 20.”

Sipila: “I have been here since June 1, I stayed here this summer.”

What was the best part of the first week of school? 

Enfield: “Seeing all the friends that I missed over the summer.”

Sipila: “Getting to reconnect with people I haven’t seen in a long time and also be back on campus since I was abroad last spring.”

What have you done so far this first week? 

Enfield: “Gone to classes, done some shopping, organized room stuff, and hung out with friends.”

Sipila: “Did some meal prep, went to the Zag Shop, went to classes I guess too.”

Do you feel ready for the rest of the year?

Enfield: “I think it’s starting out on a good foot so yeah I’ll say I’m ready.”

Sipila: “Absolutely not. I was abroad last spring and I do not think I’m ready to be back in school since I’ve had such a long summer.”

Delina Biniam (junior, 20) 

When did you get to Spokane/campus? 

“I’ve been here all summer basically. I left when everyone else did and then I came back June 1, so I’ve been here ever since.” 

What was the best part of the first week of school?

“I think just seeing everybody again because it’s so weird seeing the same 40 people over and over again [over the summer in Spokane].” 

What have you done so far this first week? 

“This first week I’ve already been in the lib [library], I’ve already been reading and all that. I’ve been kinda semi-preparing myself mentally for the school year, getting ready for the activities I’m a part of. This has just gotten me more ready and excited for the school year, but I needed to prepare emotionally and physically and get ready.”

Do you feel ready for the rest of the year?

“I wanna say yes, but it’s a very pending yes.”

Daisy Santana (senior, 20)

When did you get to Spokane/campus? 

“I stayed here this summer.”

What was the best part of the first week of school?

“Probably meeting my new residents. I’m an RA on campus so it was really cool to get to meet the incoming freshmen.”

What have you done so far this first week? 

“I’ve just been going to class, doing a lot of one-on-ones but that’s about it, just working and class.”

Do you feel ready for the rest of the year?

“Not really, it’s senior year so there’s a lot going on, but I’m trying to cherish every moment.”

Kasaiya Alaalatoa (senior, 21)

When did you get to Spokane/campus? 

“About a week ago.”

What was the best part of the first week of school? 

“I think it’s the reconnection, I both love and hate the small talk, you know how everybody’s like ‘how’s your summer,’ but for me it’s just nice to be around a persons energy again.”

What have you done so far this first week? 

“Moved into my place, settled into my class, and tried to adjust the best I can and get ready for this big senior semester.”

Do you feel ready for the rest of the year?

“Yeah, I am as ready as I can be for 2020 to start. Things are gonna get a little crazy but I think I’m ready.”
