With just one week left of Gonzaga Student Body Association (GSBA) Senate meetings left, the senate met to discuss topics regarding GSBA in the past week.
Club funding was approved for the Women’s Club Soccer team for their trip to nationals from November 20-24 in Round Rock, Texas. The funding would be towards travel expenses, including airfare, hotels, rental cars and tickets for the team to participate in the event.
The funding was granted for $3000 from the clubs account and $3000 from the nationals account, with a grant total for the Women’s Club Soccer team for $6000.
The funding comes from different accounts within GSBA. The nationals account allows funding for club sports participating in national tournaments.
“Within the funding account that we have it's technically divided into three different accounts.” said Braxton Difuntorum, the Off-Campus senator.
The United Students Against Sweatshops (USAS) was granted $2030 to send 10 students to a USAS conference at UC Santa Barbara. The allotted funds would go towards half the cost of transportation for the students, which will be by plane.
The GSBA senate welcomed a new Senator. Connor Gilbert, senior, will be serving as the Transfer/Veteran/Adult senator for the remainder of the 2019-2020 school year. He will also be a part of the Student Development committee.
The Finance committee approved a funding request of $700 for Moment of Magic for shirts that would be provided to members of the club.
Moment of Magic is a nationwide club that brings magic in the form of characters such as Disney Princesses, Marvel Characters, and so on. Their funding for tee shirts is so the groups can be recognized when going to hospitals, which is a regulation for some hospitals.
“They bring magic into these places where magic doesn’t happen as much,” said Carson Chaplin.
Men’s club Volleyball was approved funding for $1556.88. The funding will go towards new uniforms that will be passed down for a few years.
The Vetran Students of America Club was granted $1500 to send four members to a national conference. Here the students will network with other veterans about their success with higher education.
The last GSBA senate meeting of the semester will be held on December 2nd. There will be no meeting on Monday, November 25 for Thanksgiving break.
Editor's Note: Conner Gilbert is currently employed by The Gonzaga Bulletin as a sports editor.
