Who stole GSBA? The Young American Foundation

I have just returned from spending an hour and a half of a weeknight evening listening to a conservative pundit spinning a yarn that blames a brand of feminism she does not understand for the culture wars that have gripped America since the Reagan administration.

This would not be so bad if it weren’t for the fact that she was paid $10,000 for her efforts and can now put the name of the university where I teach the subject she butchered on her public speaking resumé.

How did this happen?  It happened because Gonzaga Student Development allows a student organization to pretend to be so interested in feminism and to “hearing all sides” that it simply must host a speaker groomed and funded by an extremist political think tank and to pretend to pay for this speaker out of university club funds.

I am disgusted that the fine institution at which I teach allows itself, its name and the funding structure it has created to foster authentic student engagement to be manipulated by outside political forces.

The kicker: The speaker so sought by the Young Republicans is a card carrying Democrat!  Ouch.

We all got punked.
