Jonas Piibor has been named head coach of the Gonzaga men's tennis team, Director of Athletics Mike Roth announced on Thursday.
Former coach Peter MacDonald announced his resignation in early May with plans to assume the role of director of Tennis for Sunriver Resort and Sunriver Owners Assosciation in Bend, Oregon.
Piibor spent 10 seasons as the associate head coach at the University of Oregon.
“I am very honored and thankful to be the new head men’s tennis coach at Gonzaga University,” Piibor said in a statement. “I would like to thank Mike Roth, Heather Gores and the rest of the search committee for their work, trust and guidance during this process. I am anxious to dive in with total focus and energy each and every day to ensure that Gonzaga men’s tennis is operating the Zag way.”
The Ducks went 153-96 in 10 seasons under Piibor's tutelage and had tallied an opening-round NCAA tournament victory in each of the last three years.
“We are very excited to welcome Jonas to Gonzaga,” Associate Director of Athletics Heather Gores said in a statement. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our men’s tennis program, and he did a fantastic job resurging the Oregon men’s tennis program over the last 10 seasons. We are confident in his leadership and the future of Gonzaga men’s tennis under his direction.”
