USF canceled

In his first season at GU, guard Rasir Bolton (above) leads the Zags in 3-pointers made with 27 through 13 games.

Thursday’s men’s basketball game between the No. 4 Gonzaga Bulldogs and San Francisco Dons has been postponed due to health and safety protocols within GU’s program. Both schools are working with the West Coast Conference (WCC) to reschedule the game.

Now the third consecutive game that has been affected by COVID-19, the Zags now look ahead to Jan. 8 as their first WCC game of the season. The team’s matchups against San Diego on Dec. 30 and LMU on Jan. 1 were also postponed.

GU’s next game is scheduled to take place Saturday in Spokane against the Pepperdine Waves at 6 pm.

The Dons were scheduled to start conference play on the road against Saint Mary’s last Saturday, however COVID-19 protocols within the Gaels program have forced the game to be rescheduled. A three-game winning streak puts USF at 13-1 on the season, with its most recent victory coming on Dec. 28 against Academy of Art.

The Bulldogs have won the previous 21 matchups against the Dons, with the most recent being a 100-61 victory in San Francisco last February. Drew Timme finished that game with 28 points and 10 rebounds as GU held USF to 35% shooting from the floor.
