The Gonzaga University men’s tennis team won 7-0 against the Montana Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon at the Stevens Center.
The day started with doubles on court one with GU’s senior Matthew Hollingsworth and junior Sasha Trkulja. The pairing held their own on the court to finish off their opponents 6-2.
On court two, a similar outcome occurred with GU's Arthus Bassetiere and Leon Roider winning 6-2.
After double play finished with GU winning two out of the three matches, singles play began.
The Zags dominated singles play, with every player beating their opponent as GU (5-2) finished with a 7-0 win over Montana (4-4).
Following the match, GU head coach D.J. Gurule was left grateful and excited for what’s to come.
“I really thought the guys did a great job with their energy. After an extended break they were ready to compete,” Gurule said. “Ultimately, we were able to control our controllables, which led to a good outcome.”
GU heads to California this coming weekend to play UCLA this coming Friday before visiting UC Irvine on Saturday. Gurule sees the matches as a way for his players to prove themselves.
“We see our upcoming matches in LA as a great opportunities,” Gurule said. “We know that UCLA is a very good team, but so are we. The guys will be ready to go and we are looking forward to the challenge.”
